Last night, Newbury College level 1 and 2 hair, beauty and spa students wowed audiences with a catwalk display of their creative talents, all set around a theme of Save the World'.

Each student designed and created a look ' including hair, make up and clothing ' based on their interpretation of the theme. Their models then took to the catwalk in front of a panel of industry experts from commercial salons and leading companies in the sector, including Dynamic Make-up Artistry, LK Hair, Lynnaire's Hair and Salon Services.

Some of the creations were based on topical issues such as endangered animals, global warming and recycling. The winners from the different levels included: Laura Sutton ' level 1 hair, Lucy Tooze ' level 1 beauty, Sharna Field ' level 2 beauty and Jasmine Chandler ' level 2 spa. The overall winner was Laura Sutton, who was inspired by nature for her theme.

Rachael Elsey, curriculum manager for hair and beauty, said: We'd like to thank everyone who came along to support the event, including all the parents and judges. Our annual showcase event is designed to allow the students' imagination to flourish and they certainly didn't disappoint! Some of the creations were truly amazing and we are very proud of what they achieved.

Jenny Parks, Academy Salon co-ordinator, added: As well as it being a fun event to participate in, the students gain valuable experience of how to interpret a brief and organise themselves so they can deliver the project on time ' skills they'll need if they want to succeed in this dynamic industry.
