Newbury College and University Centre Newbury (UCN) extend our congratulations to Xtrac, a long-term apprenticeship partner, for once again receiving the prestigious Princess Royal Training Award. This marks the third time Xtrac has been recognised for its exceptional commitment to training and development, solidifying its position as a leader in workforce training in the UK.
It is the only company in the automotive and motorsport industry to win the apprenticeship training mark of recognition for a third time, having previously been recognised in 2018 and 2021 for its apprenticeship programme. Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, will present the award at a ceremony where 52 award winners, including Bentley Motors and Lotus Cars from the automotive sector, will gather in November.
Our partnership with Xtrac, which began in 2003, has allowed aspiring engineers to gain valuable real-world experience alongside technical study through advanced manufacturing apprenticeship programmes up to post graduate degree level, thanks to the degree apprenticeship provision available at University Centre Newbury.
Xtrac’s forward-thinking approach to training is a perfect example of how collaboration between industry and education can help students develop the skills required for modern careers, and their commitment in developing these training programmes with us aligns with our ethos of providing careers, not courses and our mission to create opportunities that transform lives.
Dr Jo Houghton, Vice Principal HE and Skills, said:
"We are proud of our long-standing partnership with Xtrac and applaud their latest achievement in receiving the Princess Royal Training Award for a third time. Their commitment to high-quality training and development is exemplary and aligns closely with our own goal of equipping the local workforce with the skills they need for successful careers."
Over 30 per cent of Xtrac’s employees are under 30, so continual investment in training is crucial to its ongoing business growth, and the powerful partnership between education and industry is key to making that happen.
At Newbury College and UCN, we are committed to supporting businesses of all sizes by offering tailored apprenticeship and training programmes that align with industry needs. We invite all employers to explore the opportunities available to help develop the skilled workforce needed to drive sustainable growth and long-term success.
