Adam Roe with Berkshire Youth’s David Seward

Newbury College Business Management and Administration student, Adam Roe, further developed his valuable business skills when he supported key operations, such as updating the website, supporting business planning and producing financial reports, as part of his T Level industry placement at the Waterside Centre.

Adam’s biggest contribution involved a financial review of the on-site café. By conducting a cost centre analysis, auditing stock levels, and comparing income with expenditure, he developed a performance-tracking spreadsheet now used by café staff. He also compiled a building utilisation report, which he confidently presented to the charity’s trustees, helping inform future decision-making.

Reflecting on the success of his placement, Adam said:

“My communication skills and confidence levels have increased greatly since starting my placement here. I have gathered vast experience in numerous parts of administration and business management, which can be put onto my CV and used as experience for future employers.”

Industry placements form a core part of T Level programmes and are central to Newbury College’s “Careers, not courses” approach. These structured, real-world opportunities help students strengthen their skills but also provide a pipeline of talent and a fresh perspective to the companies they support.

David Seward of Berkshire Youth praised Adam’s professionalism and contributions:

“Adam has been a real asset, he outdid all expectations, a confident young man who can work on his own initiative, a very productive employee.”

Adam’s experience is one of many recent Newbury College success stories, that show how effective partnerships can contribute positively to both career progression and business development.
