Pedro Alves with David Haines

Pedro Alves, a graduating T Level Digital Support Services student at Newbury College, has successfully completed an industry placement at Kennet School, where he has been offered a paid summer job in their IT department. Pedro, who specialised in Digital Infrastructure, will continue his academic journey by pursuing a degree in Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence at Buckinghamshire New University this autumn.

T Levels are technical qualifications designed to prepare students for skilled employment, further study, or apprenticeships. Industry placements, which last a minimum of 45 days, are integral to the T Level programme, providing students with practical experience and a chance to apply their learning in a real-world setting. For employers, these placements offer an opportunity to work with and potentially recruit emerging talent.

Reflecting on his industry placement, Pedro said, "The placement was very helpful in preparing me for my future career. It improved my communication skills and helped me overcome shyness. Additionally, it enhanced my technical skills and understanding of technology. I also learned the valuable lesson that giving my best effort is important."

David Haines, IT Technician at Kennet School, praised Pedro's contributions, noting, "[Pedro] has proven to be an asset to the IT Team, resolving a number of outstanding issues." Pedro's hard work and dedication have not only secured him a paid role for the summer but also received recognition at this summer's Career Academy Awards, where he received the Best Contribution 2024 award.

T Levels are equivalent to three A Levels and provide a comprehensive pathway for students to progress into higher education, apprenticeships, or employment. With the skills and experience gained through his T Level, Pedro is well-prepared to embark on his degree in Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence, where he will continue to develop his expertise and prepare for a successful career in the technology sector.
