Newbury College catering student, Zack Eben Aimine, has been making the most of the summer holidays by getting in some additional work experience.
Working in the on-site butchery at the Wellington Farm Shop near Reading, Zack has been busy cutting, deboning, curing, scoring, slicing and dicing fresh local produce, as he prepares for the next level of his Professional Cookery programme.
COVID restrictions have limited the amount of practical experience that students have been able to access over the past academic year, so Zack volunteered to do the additional work over the summer in order to gain more confidence and have more experience in a real working environment.
The College’s Employer Engagement Team found him the placement at Wellington Farm Shop (part of the Wellington Estate), who specialise in 'farm to fork' produce and have won many awards.
Business Engagement Adviser, Cathryn Millward, said: “Wellington Farm Shop have been very accommodating in working with us to find a work placement suitable for Zack and his career aspirations. They are great advocates of our BEEP (Berkshire Education Employer Partnership) programme and we have received some wonderful feedback from the Retail Manager. Zack’s tutors are looking forward to seeing how he has progressed.”
Zack begins his Level 2 Professional Cookery programme this September and is already looking forward to gaining more work experience, both in the College’s commercial restaurant and in industry.
