Students from the Art and Design programmes showcased their creations at the annual Creative Arts End of Year Show 2023 this month. The exhibition, which ran until Tuesday, 11 July, featured a kaleidoscope of artistic ingenuity and has been hailed as 'fantastic' by visitors.
Among the pieces displayed were a striking three-dimensional photograph embodying the element of fire set in a charcoal black frame; a captivating quadriptych, a multimedia piece revealing the four seasons through a combination of lino prints depicting the artist's cat set against Japanese woodblock print backgrounds; and a unique T-shirt and tote bag set, heat-pressed with vibrant animal print designs.
The exceptional artworks were crafted by students enrolled on the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design Skills, the BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media Practice, and the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Art and Design programmes.
Visitors to the show commended the quality and innovation of the artwork on display. One visitor was quoted as saying, "This is some of the best quality artwork I have seen," further affirming the calibre of talent.
The exhibition demonstrated not only the creativity of the students but also the dedication and effort they poured into their work on a professional level. As a college geared towards "careers, not courses", Newbury College students explore the many ways that their skills and talents can influence future employment opportunities.
The show was an opportunity for these developing artists to showcase their skills, perspectives, and passion to members of the public and potentially future employers. The interest expressed by many visitors in purchasing prints of the artworks not only solidified the exceptional quality of the work but also testified to the value that others see in the students' creations.
