Emily Hauxwell in her new role at Rebound Electronics

As the academic year draws to a close, University Centre Newbury (UCN) is proud to celebrate the achievements of its students, particularly those from the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Graphic Design. This course has consistently demonstrated excellence by helping students secure positions as Junior Graphic Designers before they complete their studies.

Emily Hauxwell, a recent graduate, has successfully started her role as a Junior Graphic Designer at Rebound Electronics in Newbury. Victoria Burden, the Graphic Design Course Leader, recently visited Emily at her new workplace, receiving a warm welcome from Emily and her colleagues in the Marketing Department.

Victoria Burden commented: "It was lovely to be shown around by Emily in her new workplace. Rebound Electronics have an amazing modern office environment with different zones for different activities.

"Emily shared some of her current work, and it was so good to see how the projects over the past two years on the HNC and HND in Graphic Design, have reflected in the high-quality work Emily is now producing in her new role, showing attention to detail and awareness of different branding guidelines for different companies."

The HND in Graphic Design at UCN is designed to prepare students thoroughly for the workplace, ensuring they are ready to contribute effectively from day one. The course emphasises mastering relevant specialist software, understanding print and production considerations, and developing confidence and capability in producing work that meets client requirements. Integration of work experience, live briefs, and collaboration with industry professionals build the confidence necessary for students to succeed in their careers.

Emily Hauxwell reflected on her experience: “The HNC and HND in Graphic Design have given me the skills and knowledge to gain a job in Graphic Design. I found it very daunting to go back to education in my late 20s. However, I am glad I did as I now work full-time as a graphic designer. The course also gave me a newfound confidence in my creativity and in communicating and networking with peers and industry professionals.”

Her new role at Rebound Electronics has been a dream come true for Emily, who is excited about the variety of projects she is working on and the upcoming events in which her design skills will be crucial for exhibition branding, including the stands and collateral.

There is still time to apply for the Higher National Certificate in Graphic Design and Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design. Prospective students are encouraged to visit the University Centre Newbury website at ucn.ac.uk to learn more about these courses and start their journey towards a successful career in graphic design.
