  • Work experience and industry placements

    Before placement
    • A dedicated Industry placement coordinator will be assigned to the placement, supporting both employer and student.
    • The coordinator will be your primary contact throughout the placement journey and will discuss and arrange the placement details; start/end dates, hours/days, organise visits to the placement site and Teams calls when required; providing all the details needed.
    • There will be an opportunity to meet and interview the candidates before the placement is confirmed.
    • The placement will be set up on our placement management system, which will include compliance information, placement details, progress, goals, and targets.

    During placement
    • While you provide the students with opportunities to develop their technical skills within your industry, the placement coordinator will be on hand to offer support and guidance as and when needed.

    After placement
    • A successful placement can very often lead to other positive opportunities for both the employer and the student, such as fulfilling roles within a business or providing a pathway for apprenticeship opportunities.

  • Guest speakers and careers fairs

We are excited to welcome you and hope that your visit will be both enjoyable and productive. This guide provides you with essential information to help you prepare and make the most of your experience.

    Before your visit
    • Risk assessment: In certain circumstances, such as large events or if your talk involves interactive activities or demonstrations, we may need to conduct a risk assessment prior to your visit. This is a standard procedure to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both students and staff. We will notify you in advance if this is necessary and work with you to complete any required paperwork. If you have any specific safety concerns or require special arrangements, please let us know as early as possible.
    • Preparation and materials: Please ensure you have your presentation materials ready in advance. We recommend bringing your presentation on a USB drive, and you can also email it to us ahead of time. If you have any special technical requirements, such as sound or video equipment, inform us before your visit to ensure everything is set up for you.

    Arrival and parking
    • Arrival: We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before your scheduled session to allow time for signing in, set-up, and any technical checks. Upon arrival, please report to the main reception, where our staff will greet you and accompany you to the location of your talk.
    • Parking: Free visitor parking is available on campus. We have a barrier system in place. Please drive up to the barrier and press the call button to gain access.

    Working with students
    • Engaging content: We encourage you to make your presentation informative, engaging, and relevant to the students' studies and career interests. Sharing real-life examples from your industry and offering career advice is particularly valuable. If possible, aim to leave time for questions and answers, as this helps students gain more insight into your field.
    • Presentation equipment: Should you require any technical facilities, assistance or have interactive elements in your presentation, please inform us ahead of time.

    After your visit
    • Post-event engagement: After your session, some students may approach you with additional questions or for advice. If you are open to providing contact details or offering work experience opportunities, please discuss this with a member of staff during or after your talk. There may also be opportunities to network with staff or other professionals visiting the college. You should NEVER give your contact details directly to a student, ask for their contact details, or arrange to meet them.
    • Feedback and follow-up: We value your feedback and may reach out after the event to gather your thoughts on your experience at Newbury College. If you are interested in returning for future speaking engagements or collaborating on other projects, please let us know – we are always eager to build strong connections with industry experts.

  • Visits to your organisation

When we visit your organisation with a group of students, we aim to provide an educational and meaningful experience. Visits help students gain real-world insights related to their future careers and expand their understanding of different work environments. Below is a simple guide outlining what you can expect and how to prepare for the visit.

    Before our visit
    • Itinerary and coordination: We will be in touch to arrange the specifics of the visit, including times, parking and any other details. Please provide any guidelines that must be followed so we can brief the students and/or make the appropriate arrangements.
    • Risk assessment: The group leader will conduct a thorough risk assessment to ensure the visit is safe and well-managed. We will also check and document your organisation's safety procedures and insurance coverage for third-party activities.
    • Specific needs: We will inform you if any student has a specific need, such as medical, cultural, or religious considerations.

    During our visit
    • Behaviour: During the visit, our staff will supervise students closely. We expect students to behave responsibly and respectfully while on your premises. Any specific conduct guidelines from your organisation will be shared with the students at the start of the visit.
    • Emergencies: Staff and students are expected to follow your organisation's health and safety, and emergency procedures. The group leader will carry a mobile phone and a list of emergency contacts for all students and staff.
    • Smoking: Students are not permitted to smoke during visits.

    After our visit
    • Post-visit engagement: Some students may approach you with additional questions or for advice. If you are open to providing contact details or offering work experience opportunities, please discuss this with a member of staff during or after our visit. You should NEVER give your contact details directly to a student, ask for their contact details, or arrange to meet them.
    • Feedback and follow-up: We value your feedback and may reach out after the visit to gather your thoughts on your experience. If you are interested in future collaborations, please let us know – we are always eager to build strong connections with industry experts.
