CMDA apprentices from Micro Focus

The new “Skills and Post-16 Education Act” is changing the post-16 education landscape to “level up” opportunities and make it easier for adults to train to get the skills they need to secure well-paid jobs in industries with skills gaps.

The act also reinforces the need for collaboration between training providers, such as colleges, and employers to ensure that the training on offer meets the needs of the local area.

Micro Focus is one of the world’s largest enterprise software providers, delivering the mission-critical software that keeps the digital world running.

They have been working with University Centre Newbury (UCN) since 2020 and were one of the founding employer sponsors. In September 2022, they started six new apprentices on a Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship developed with UCN and the University of Northampton.
Sarah Atkinson, Director, Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) at Micro Focus stated: “We power billions of transactions and millions of business-critical functions in industries in which getting IT right matters. This is an exciting opportunity to get a fully rounded view of the business as each recruit will have the opportunity to spend time in a number of departments such as HR, Finance, Legal and IT.”

Student feedback is also very positive with one saying: “This chartered management degree meets my job needs, as it will give me the leadership skills, I will need in the future to run a business. Everything that I am going to learn in the next four years, is going to be relevant to my prospective career.”
