Throughout this programme, you will explore a wide variety of topics designed to deepen your understanding of sport and physical activity. Each unit will blend theory with practical sessions, ensuring that you develop both the academic knowledge and physical skills needed to thrive in the sport sector. Topics may include:

Entry Requirements
Ideally you will have a GCSE grade 4 above in PE or Sport and grade 4 or above, in Maths and English but an interest in Sport and a positive attitude to learning is a must. If a grade 4 has not been obtained in English and Maths then you will continue to study these alongside your sports pathway programme.
These programmes are ideal for those that love Sport and like a challenge. This includes taking part in both practical and theory-based lessons in order to grow the skillset needed to be successful within Sport or a sports/fitness based environment.
A keen interest in sport, fitness, and physical activity is essential for this programme. You should be comfortable with physical challenges and enjoy working as part of a team. Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and a willingness to learn and lead will also help you succeed.

Progression
You could progress into higher education, such as the HNC in Community Coaching for England delivered at University Centre Newbury, or step directly into employment in roles like personal training, sports coaching, or fitness instruction. Alternatively, this qualification can help you move into areas like sports development or event management in the leisure industry.

Assessment
You will be assessed through a combination of practical assessments, written assignments, and portfolio work. These will allow you to demonstrate your knowledge and skills across different areas of sport and physical activity. There may also be opportunities to showcase your leadership abilities through group projects or event management. In addition to portfolio work, some units may also include externally marked assessment material, sat under controlled conditions.

While much of the learning is practical, you will also need to dedicate time to researching sports theory, completing written assignments, and preparing for assessments. Regular revision and self-reflection on your practical skills will be key to your success in this programme.

You will have the opportunity to participate in work experience where you can gain hands-on experience.
