Community Coaching for England lays the foundations of learning by providing a specialised introduction to coaching in the UK landscape and different coaching functions. This develops and strengthens core skills while preparing the you for Level 5 (HND) or to enter employment with the qualities necessary for job roles that require some personal responsibility.

You will gain a wide range of coaching knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. You will be involved in vocational activities that help to develop positive behaviours and transferable skills. Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and the workplace.


  • Description

    Throughout the programme you will be develop and demonstrate a sound knowledge of the concepts of coaching in the UK. You will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as general skills and qualities relevant to key areas in Sport and Exercise Science. You will learn to communicate accurately and appropriately, and you will develop the qualities needed for employment that requires personal responsibility. The programme will enable you to develop a range of transferable skills to ensure effective team working, independent initiatives, organisational competence and problem-solving strategies. You will be adaptable and flexible, show resilience under pressure, and meet challenging targets within a given resource.

  • Entry Requirements

    A Level 3 qualification,or similar, is required.

    A typical offer would be BCC at A-Level or DMM at BTEC. Applications are welcome from students with a range of non-traditional educational or professional qualifications. We also welcome mature students and students who have undertaken Access courses.

    As a minimum: 3 GCSE's Grade A-C / 9-4 or Level 2 equivalent to include Mathematics and English Language.

    If English is not your first language, a minimum IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) is required.

    You should be familiar with basic computer functions and applications including Microsoft Windows and Office. Parts of your programme will be delivered using Microsoft Teams.     Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Community Coaching for England

  • Progression

    Students who successfully complete this qualification can enter employment, continue existing employment, study a relevant course at Level 5 (HND) or commit to continuing professional development (CPD).

  • Assessment

    You will be assessed continually throughout the course, normally via written assignments, observations, presentations and reflective logbooks.

  • Home Study

    You are expected to work independently and proactively to prepare for class and undertake written assignments in your own time, allocating approximately four hours a week on research and self-study outside of normal class time in order to build up knowledge and confidence and successfully complete the programme.

  • Work Placement

    The course does not involve work placement, but you are encouraged to seek out opportunities to visit or engage with companies within the industry.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

    The tuition fee for this programme is £6,000 per year. In addition to the tuition fee, an awarding body registration fee (set by the awarding body) and an annual student subscription fee of £15, are payable. At times, you may be offered the opportunity to visit exhibitions and shows, which may require additional entrance fees and travel costs.

    You will be expected to bring appropriate stationery and exercise kit for practical sessions.
