Each module is designed to equip you with both theoretical knowledge and practical insights to apply in real-world situations.
A Disclosure Barring Check (DBS) is required for all learners in order to work with Vulnerable Individuals. We try to work with students to identify a suitable work placement taking into consideration interests and future career aspirations.

Entry Requirements
Students will need to have five GCSE passes at grade D or above in English and also in Maths. Alternatively, students will be accepted onto the course if they have an equivalent vocational qualification at merit grade, and Functional Skills Maths and English, preferably at Level 1. All students must have achieved, or show the ability to achieve, Maths and English to D or equivalent. Where a student has not yet fulfilled this requirement, a functional skills qualification is a mandatory part of this course.
You should have a caring nature and a desire to support others. Strong communication skills, empathy, and the ability to work well with different people are key attributes that will help you excel. You'll also develop teamwork, problem-solving, and organisational skills that will serve you well in your future career.

Progression
Upon completing the Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, you will be well-prepared to take your next step in the sector. You could move on to a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or pursue an apprenticeship to further your practical skills. This qualification also opens the door to entry-level roles in the health and social care industry, including care assistant or support worker positions.

Assessment
You'll be assessed through a combination of coursework, practical assessments, and case studies. This flexible approach ensures you can demonstrate your understanding in a variety of ways, helping to build your confidence and competence throughout the programme. You'll also complete a work placement to put your learning into action and gain valuable hands-on experience.

Home Study
Research is an ongoing expectation of the programme/course. This will demonstrate motivation and research skills. There is approximately 5 hours a week of homework or research.

Work Placement
You will participate in 2 days per week of work experience, and additional block weeks, where you can gain hands-on experience. You will also engage with inspiring speakers from the industry who will share insights about their roles and career paths. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to visit various workplaces to observe professionals in action.

Fees and Additional Costs
If you are over 18 there will be a registration fee of £130.00 if you have not previously registered with the exam board. It is recommended that students have access to a copy of the student text book at home. Some copies may be available to loan via the Learning Resource Centre. Students will also need to buy an embroidered polo shirt and/or jumper for work placement.
