Skills Bootcamps in Welding
Skills Bootcamps in Welding have been designed to develop a solid understanding of welding techniques. You'll gain MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding experience and deepen your knowledge of applying these techniques alongside industry health and safety requirements.
This 8-week welding introduction is designed for those who wish to enhance their skills in welding. The course is delivered in conjunction with Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership and co-funded by the Department for Education and employers.

Description
Throughout the Skills Bootcamp in Welding, you will develop your skills with:
- 60 Guide Learning Hours (including 36hr practical welding and 24hrs covering Non-Destructive Testing).
- Health & safety associated with welding
- Principles of consumables, gases mixture types and associated equipment of MIG welding (4 weeks), TIG welding (2 weeks) and combined (2 weeks)
- Practical on both TIG and MIG (group split into two so each get 2 days on TIG and 2 days on MIG).
- Different joint types, positions and thickness of materials
- Final assessment piece tested to basic BS-EN 287-1 requirements.
- MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspection) - understand to how to test welds, the benefits and limitations of MPI, calculations, methods of altering magnetic fields (Current & Mag flow) and the difference between portable and bench-based equipment.
- NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) includes DPI (Dye penetrant testing) of welds - how it's done, benefits and limitations.
- 60 Guide Learning Hours (including 36hr practical welding and 24hrs covering Non-Destructive Testing).

Entry Requirements
All participants must have resided in the UK for at least three years and be 19 years old or over. A keen interest in Welding is desirable.
An awareness of or previous experience in welding is an advantage but not essential.

There are no formal qualifications attached to this course.

Progression
Skills Bootcamps are flexible training programmes, they are designed to give people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with an employer.

Assessment
You will be assessed in class throughout your programme.

Home Study
You may be encouraged to review the knowledge and skills developed on your programme inbetween sessions.

Work Placement
The course does not involve work placement.

Fees and Additional Costs
Skills Bootcamps are FREE to the learner.
Large employers wishing to utilise these Skills Bootcamps in Welding will need to contribute 30% of the cost per learner (£1200), Small or medium employers SME's will be need to contribute 10% of the cost per learner (£400)
