HNC in Graphic Design

  • Description

    The T Level is a two-year course designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in the media industry. It's equivalent to three A Levels and combines classroom learning with hands-on industry experience, ensuring you gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

    Developed in collaboration with media industry professionals, the T Level covers a wide range of topics including:

    • the creative economy
    • the individual in the creative industries
    • cultural context and vocabulary
    • audience and consumer needs
    • legal and regulatory requirements
    • professional standards and conduct in the workplace
    • equality, diversity and inclusion requirements
    • research skills
    • project methodology and administration
    • continued professional development

    You can specialise in areas like creative media production or content creation, tailoring your learning to your career interests.

    The specialisms available in the Media, Broadcast and Production T Level are:

    • Creative Media Technician
    • Events and Venues Technician
    • Content Creation and Production
  • Entry Requirements

    Five GSCE passes at grade 4/C or above, preferably to include Maths and English or an equivalent vocational qualification at merit grade, and Functional Skills Maths and English, preferably at Level 2.

    Students who have not yet achieved grade 4/C in GCSE Maths and English, will study Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English as part of their course

    You should be creative, able to generate and develop new content ideas, and have strong communication abilities for pitching ideas and collaborating. Some technical skills in video production and editing software would be an advantage, but these skills will be covered on the programme.

    Upon completion, you can step directly into the media industry, take up an apprenticeship, or pursue higher education as the qualification also provides UCAS points, allowing you to progress to programmes such as the HNC Graphics programme at UCN or related subjects at university.

  • Assessment

    Your skills will be assessed through a combination of written and practical exams, employer-set projects, group work, and presentations. This varied approach ensures you can showcase your abilities effectively.

  • Home Study

    You are expected to spend between 6-10 hours a week studying and working on projects outside of your timetabled classes to successfully complete this programme. This will help you build up knowledge and confidence within the media industry.

  • Work Placement

    You'll complete a minimum of 315 hours (about 45 days) of industry placement, giving you real-world experience and invaluable insights into the media sector.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

    All students are asked to contribute £15 towards the College Subscription Fund. You may also be offered the opportunity to visit location sites, exhibitions and shows. These may require you to pay entrance fees and coach costs. If you would benefit from purchasing textbooks or other subject-specific resources, the details of this will be discussed during interview.
