Javaid Iqbal is a retired Principal Process Engineer with extensive experience in the oil and gas industry. His career, spanning several decades, has provided him with valuable insights into the professional development needs of young engineers transitioning from academia to industry. This background, although distinct from the dynamics of the education sector, has been instrumental in his role at Newbury College.

In October 2020, Iqbal voluntarily joined the College Corporation of Newbury College, a decision influenced by the college's philosophy of "Careers not Courses." This practical approach to education resonated with his own beliefs and experiences. During his tenure, he has also contributed as a member of the Corporation Audit Committee. His engineering background, particularly his expertise in structured analysis and hazard review, has proven beneficial in ensuring the college provides a safe, operational, and purposeful environment for its learners.

Iqbal's professional journey in process engineering led him and his wife to live and work across various countries in the Far East and Europe. These experiences enriched his understanding of diverse cultures and lifestyles, a perspective he considers vital in respecting and valuing the diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds of the college's learners. His international exposure has significantly influenced his approach to decision-making within the college, promoting progressive and inclusive educational practices.

His career highlights include managing major projects from design to construction and commissioning. In one notable instance, he progressed from Site Process Engineer to Commissioning Manager, leading a multidisciplinary team. These experiences underscored the importance of people management over technical expertise in achieving efficient and successful outcomes.
