Mathematics programmes are designed to further improve and enhance personal skills in understanding mathematical methods and concepts. These qualifications are for anyone who has not yet achieved GCSE Mathematics at grade 4 (C).

  • Description

    We will help you to assess the right pathway for your current level. Pathways include:

    Brush Up Your Maths (Functional Skills) This will help you build on your practical maths skills to get the most out of work and everyday life. If you need to improve your confidence in your maths then this is the pathway for you.

    Key areas of study include: -Using numbers in everyday life

    • Handling data
    • Using a calculator
    • Measure, shape and space

    GCSE Mathematics Essential for many higher education courses and careers, GCSE Mathematics will help you to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts enabling you to better use maths in everyday and real world situations. You will gain confidence in problem solving strategies, logical thinking and handling data, as well as building confidence and skills to solve practical mathematical problems.

    Key areas of study include:

    • Number, including fractions, decimals and percentages
    • Algebra, including drawing and reading graphs
    • Ratio and proportion
    • Geometry and measures, including shapes and angles
    • Probability
    • Statistics, including reading charts and graphs
  • Entry Requirements

    You will be required to undertake a diagnostic assessment prior to acceptance on the programme.

    Those wishing to take the GCSE pathway should be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills. You should also be confident in reading and interpreting data and approaching mathematical problems.

  • Qualification
    • Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics; or
    • AQA GCSE in Mathematics (Foundation)
  • Progression

    These qualifications can support your application to a vocational qualification or support employment applications. GCSE Maths at grade 4 (grade C) is required for entry to Higher and some Further Education courses.

  • Assessment

    Practice exams and regular progress checks are carried out during the course with one or more external examination papers at the end of the programme.

    The final assessment for the GCSE pathway will be three exams. Each exam is 1 hour 30 minutes, and counts for one third of the final grade. Results will be given on a grade system from 1 to 9 (9 being the highest). Our aim is for you to achieve a minimum grade 4 at the end of the programme.

  • Home Study

    One or two hours of homework will be set each week.

  • Work Placement

    This programme does not require you to undertake work experience.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

    Programmes are free for qualifying UK and EU/EEA citizen. There are no additional fees associated with this programme.
