  • Description

    This programme typically spans 5 to 6 years, combining on-the-job training with academic learning. You will engage in modules that cover:

    • Engineering mathematics and scientific principles

    • Computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE)
    • Manufacturing processes and systems

  • Entry Requirements

    Apprenticeships are available to anyone over the age of 16, living in England and have no upper age limit. Any vacancies will clearly state what the entry requirements are for the job role being advertised. There will be different entry requirements depending on the company and role

    You should have:

    • Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including Mathematics, English, and a Science subject
    • A minimum of two A-levels at grade C or above in Mathematics and a Science or Technology subject, or
    • A BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering with a Merit grade or higher

    To succeed in this programme, you should possess:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • Effective communication and teamwork skills
    • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality
    • Time management and organisational skills
    • A proactive approach to learning and development

    You should be familiar with basic computer functions and applications including Microsoft Windows and Office. Parts of your programme will be delivered using Microsoft Teams. Training for this application will be provided.

  • Progression

    Successful completion of this apprenticeship can give you several routes for progression in industry including careers such as manufacturing engineer, production manager, quality assurance engineer, or process development engineer.

  • Assessment

    Your progress will be evaluated through:

    • Coursework assignments and projects
    • Practical assessments and presentations
    • End-point assessment comprising:
      • Case study presentation with supporting evidence
      • Occupational professional discussion underpinned by a competence report
  • Home Study

    You will be expected to dedicate approximately 810 hours per week to independent study. You will require regular access to a computer and internet connection.

  • Work Placement

    This apprenticeship includes substantial work-based learning, allowing you to apply academic knowledge to real-world engineering projects within your employing organisation.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

    If you are between the ages of 16 and 24, you will not have to fund your own tuition, it is your employer and the government who cover the fees. If you are over 25, you may be asked to contribute towards the cost of your training, but it depends on your employer. If you do have to contribute to the cost of training, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.

    The cost of training an apprentice is dependent on their age and whether or not the business pays the Apprenticeship Levy. There are a range of different grants and incentives available to employers. Contact us for up-to-date information and advice on the funding support available. A £15 College Subscription Fund contribution is required. Additional costs may include:

    • Personal protective equipment (PPE) for workshop activities
    • Textbooks and learning materials
    • Travel expenses for work placements or site visits
