This qualification is designed for adults aged 19+ exploring career opportunities within the Electrical Installation industry, you will gain the basic skills and experience needed to get started in the trade. It is also suitable for those who have successfully achieved the Level 1 programme.

The certificate will suit students who want to learn the basics of electro-technical principles and practice. It allows students to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the electro-technology sector. This is a qualification that tests both practical and knowledge-based skills in a realistic working environment.

  • Description

    The qualification covers topics which include:

    • Health and safety in building engineering
    • Principles of electrical science
    • Electrical installations technology
    • Installation of wiring systems technology.

    Upon successful completion, students will be at an improver/electrician's mate level. Attendance of 100% is necessary in order to complete the course.

  • Entry Requirements

    Students need a good level of Maths and English. This will be assessed at interview.

    Use of basic tools and some hand skills would be useful.

  • Qualification

    Diploma in Electrical Installation Level 2

  • Progression

    Students can progress to a Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations or an apprenticeship.

  • Assessment

    The course is continuously assessed by both practical and written assignments and tests.

  • Home Study

    Students are expected to carry out some self study, typically six hours per week, and are expected to complete any work that has not been completed during lesson times.

  • Work Placement

    There is an element of work experience within this qualification. The expectation is that students will fulfil a work placement if suitable.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

    If you are over 18 there will be a registration fee of £140.00 if you have not previously registered with the exam board. Additional costs may be required for the industry specific text books. Details will be given at interview. Students are required to purchase safety boots to be worn during workshop based lessons.
