    Throughout the programme, you'll cover a range of essential topics to build your understanding of hairdressing and barbering, ensuring you're ready for the next step in your career. Topics may include:

  • Entry Requirements

    You will need to have four GCSE passes at grade 2 (E) or above, preferably including Math and English. Alternatively, you may be accepted on the course if you have an equivalent vocational qualification at an equivalent level to GCSE grades 2 along with functional Level 1 Maths and English.

    No prior experience in hairdressing or barbering is needed for this programme - its perfect for beginners. All you need is a passion for hair, an eagerness to learn, and a desire to work in a fast-paced, creative environment.

  • Qualification

    VTCT NVQ Level 1 Certificate in Hairdressing and Barbering

  • Progression

    On completing this programme, you'll have a strong foundation in hairdressing and barbering. From here, you can progress to a Level 2 in Hairdressing or Barbering, or take up an apprenticeship. You'll also have the skills to pursue entry-level roles in salons or barbershops, putting your talents to work right away.

  • Assessment

    You'll be assessed through practical tasks and assignments carried out in a real salon setting. Your tutors will be there to guide and support you as you demonstrate your skills, ensuring you're confident in all aspects of the course content.

  • Home Study

    Four hours a week would be a requirement for home study work.

  • Work Placement

    You'll have the chance to participate in work experience at our in-house salon, gaining experience on real clients. Work placements at external establishments will also allow you to gain hands-on experience in busy commercial environments. Engage with inspiring speakers from the industry who will share insights about their roles and career paths. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to visit various workplaces to observe professionals in action.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

    If you are over 18 there will be a registration fee of £95.00 if you have not previously registered with the exam board. There will be a cost for both kit and uniform. This price is available upon request from the hairdressing department and will be discussed at interview.
