Nick Handy

Nick Handy is a Chartered Accountant and experienced finance, audit and governance professional with a strong background in corporate finance, risk management and further education governance.

Nick qualified with Price Waterhouse in London before moving to its Bristol office in 1986. In 1995, he joined Vodafone Group Plc in Newbury, where he held a number of senior governance roles. His responsibilities included audit, governance and risk management, reporting to the Audit Committee Board, as well as management information and systems implementation. During his time with Vodafone, he also served as a trustee of the Vodafone Global Foundation.

He later joined Essar Energy plc, where his responsibilities included governance, external financial reporting, internal management reporting and budgeting. After retiring in 2014, Nick took on a number of voluntary roles, including serving as a Governor at Abingdon & Witney College, where he chaired the Finance and General Resources Committee before being appointed Chair of the Board. He is also a Trustee and Treasurer of Occtopus, the Oxford Colon Cancer Trust, which helps to fund research and innovation within the Oxford Colorectal Surgery department.

Nick is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He was commissioned as an Army Officer at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Bristol.

Nick joined the Board to contribute his financial, governance and recent further education board experience. He hopes to support the College through clear financial oversight, strong governance and a commitment to helping learners and the wider College community succeed.
