Matt Jones is a Corporation Board Member and Engineering Lecturer at Newbury College. He began his career in Australia, starting an apprenticeship in 1992 as a metal machinist (toolmaker), and went on to work across compressed air, printing, and food manufacturing—progressing from tradesperson to maintenance and production leadership roles in large, national businesses.
After moving to the UK around 13 years ago, Matt and his family put down roots locally, with all four family members studying at Newbury College. Motivated by that experience, he joined the Corporation Board to give something back, bringing a practical, “shop-floor” perspective and a reputation for being straightforward and approachable.
In his teaching role, Matt supports learners on Level 2 and Level 3 programmes, specialising in manual machining, engineering core skills, and theory, and he champions opportunities that connect classroom learning to real-world engineering and community impact.
