Improve your Spanish and communicate in a wider range of situations, using basic phrases in the present tense.

  • Description

    This course is aimed at beginners with a small amount of previous knowledge and covers A2 of the Common European Framework of References for Languages.

    You will learn how to communicate in everyday tourist situations, asking for and understanding information, while developing speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

    This course is comprised of 3 terms. You will need to enrol and pay for each term separately.

    TERM ONE (11/09/2023 - 20/11/2023) TERM TWO (08/01/2024 - 18/03/2024) TERM THREE (25/03/2024 - 24/06/2024)

  • Entry Requirements

    This is the second year of the Beginners course, so students should be working at A1 level and be prepared to embark on A2. Students will need to have completed Term 1 in order to progress to Term 2, and so on. Exceptions may be made for students with prior learning in Spanish and can be discussed with the tutor.

    You should be comfortable with using a computer in order to access learning resources. This course uses Microsoft Teams and the Microsoft 365 platform to provide you with access to learning resources. You will be provided with login details and basic training in order to access these services.

  • Qualification

    SEG Entry Level Award in Speaking and Listening in Spanish (Entry 3)

  • Progression

    This course is comprised of 3 terms and is the second year of a 2 year Beginners programme. You will need to enrol and pay for each term separately. Your tutor will help you to re-enrol at the end of each term. After completing the this year you can progress onto the Intermediate course.

  • Assessment

    Progress on this course will be tested through tutor observation, tutor-led activities and exercises, and tutor and peer feedback and discussion.

  • Home Study

    Homework is essential and will take the form of small assignments, presentations and other activities. You will also benefit from undertaking home study of approximately one hour per week.

  • Work Placement

    There is no work placement required for this course.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

    The fee for this course is for the first term only. You will need to pay for each term separately. The tutor will recommend a textbook to support your learning which can be purchased online or from a local bookshop. This is not included in the course fee.

Fee information

16 - 18 year olds

In most cases, students aged 16-18 on a full-time study programme (including T Levels) will not be required to pay fees, and the College will fund most course-specific equipment and materials. This excludes stationary, non-curriculum trips and a £15 College Subscription.

19 years and over

Students aged 19 years and over may be required to pay fees. Our Fees, Funding and Financial Support page has details on financial support, fee remissions and loans. Please note that some courses may have additional registration, examination and/or materials fees. Where we have been unable to provide these additional costs in this information, they will be discussed with you before enrolment.

Funded programmes

Where course fees are fully funded (for example Maths, English and Essential Digital Skills), the course is free of charge to students, subject to eligibility.
