Description
This one-year, full-time programme is structured to provide a comprehensive introduction to various art and design disciplines. You will engage in practical projects and assignments that encourage experimentation and personal expression. Key areas of study are likely to include:
- Exploring materials and techniques: Experiment with a variety of artistic mediums, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and digital design.
- Understanding creative contexts: Learn about the history and influences of art and design.
- Developing ideas and concepts: Build confidence in generating and refining creative ideas.
- Expanding technical skills: Develop practical skills in 2D, 3D, and digital design.
- Creative problem-solving: Work on projects that challenge your ability to think critically and creatively.
- Industry awareness: Gain insights into careers in the creative industries.
- Final major project: Apply your skills to produce a personal creative project that showcases your strengths.
Throughout the programme, you will have access to industry-standard facilities, including dedicated art and design studios, printmaking rooms, digital design suites equipped with Adobe Creative Suite, and photography and media labs.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of three GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, preferably including English and a creative subject. Note: If you do not have a grade 4 (C) or above in English and/or Maths, you will have the opportunity to develop these skills alongside your main programme.
No formal experience is required, but having a genuine passion for art and design is key. You will need a willingness to experiment, an open mind to feedback, and a desire to push your creative boundaries. You may be asked to show examples of art and design work you have produced. This may be a sketch book, a portfolio of pieces or digital photographs of work produced.

Progression
Upon successful completion of the Art and Design Level 2 programme, you will be well-prepared to advance to higher-level qualifications or pursue entry-level roles in the creative industries. Potential progression routes include:

Assessment
Assessment is 100% coursework-based, allowing you to focus on developing your practical and creative skills without the pressure of formal exams. You will be evaluated through:
- Portfolio development: Regular submissions of creative work demonstrating technical and conceptual progress.
- Project-based assignments: Practical tasks that reflect real-world industry challenges.
- Written reflections & research: Critical analysis of creative processes and industry practices.
- Final major project: A self-directed project that showcases individual strengths and prepares you for progression.
All units are internally assessed and verified through your portfolio of evidence, subject to UAL's external quality assurance.

Home Study
You will be expected to engage in approximately 2 - 4 hours of independent study per week, including sketchbook development, research, and preparation for projects. This will help reinforce your learning and encourage personal exploration of artistic techniques and concepts.

Work Placement
You will have the chance to participate in work related activity where you can gain hands-on experience. You can also engage with inspiring speakers from the creative industries who will share insights about their roles and career paths. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to visit various workplaces to observe creative professionals in action.

Fees and Additional Costs
If you are over 18 there will be a registration fee of £130.00 if you have not previously registered with the exam board. All students are asked to contribute £15 towards the College Subscription Fund and £100 towards creative materials per year. This includes general day to day tools and materials. Offsite visits to museums and galleries will also incur a separate cost. Financial support may be available.
