Product Design & Development Engineer Apprenticeship
Why did you want to become an apprentice?
I never saw myself going to University, the school I went to was a STEM-focused school which had industry partners which often came into the school. They brought practical based tasks and we were able to do work experience with them; they would often discuss their apprenticeship programmes which got me very interested in perusing an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are a great way to learn and get the needed workplace experience at the same time.
What interests you most about your industry/subject area?
Electronics was one of my best subjects and the one I was most interested in. The practical tasks of my college work were the more interesting classes as I am a practical learner.
What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
Being able to learn and gain experience at the same time. The ability to talk with my peers about college work and how their knowledge supports my development.
How has the apprenticeship programme, including any college or work-based training, supported your career development?
Some of my colleagues have been a part of apprenticeship programmes before so they are able to discuss their experiences and understand the work I am learning. By learning and developing in two separate scenarios I am able to combine my knowledge and develop both workloads.
What do you hope to do once you complete your apprenticeship?
Once I have completed my apprenticeship programme I will have a degree in electrical and electronic engineering. I hope to be able to take on a managerial role or be able to take charge of larger projects.
