  • Description

    This programme is studied over two years and covers 18 theory and practical units. What you learn in the classroom will help you develop on the football pitch and vice versa.

  • Entry Requirements

    Five GCSE passes at grade 4/C or above or an equivalent vocational qualification at merit grade (including GCSE or Functional Skills Level 2 Maths and English).

    Students who have not yet achieved grade 4/C in GCSE Maths and English, will study Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English as part of their course.

    Mature students and those with previous experience will be considered on an individual basis. Students who do not meet the entry requirements are encouraged to speak to our Information, Advice and Guidance team about alternative provision at Level 2.

    You need to have the love for the game all areas of the course are geared towards football to help you understand and broaden your knowledge.

  • Qualification

    NCFE Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity

  • Progression

    You are able to progress from the Level 3 Extended Diploma to Higher Education courses or a range of sporting careers, this could include scholarship opportunities in America or other countries, or apprenticeships in sports and coaching. The level 4 HNC/D Sports Coaching programme is a natural progression for our students and is available through the Football Academy. This is equivalent to the first two years of university and can progress up to a full Degree qualification.

  • Assessment

    You will be assessed by a mixture of assessment methods such as practical demonstrations, written reports, PowerPoint presentations, video analysis and short answer questions.

    Assignments set will have an agreed hand in date that will need to be met in order to meet the awarding body guidelines. In addition to portfolio work, some units may also include externally marked assessment material, sat under controlled conditions.

  • Home Study

    You will be required to complete research and homework on a regular basis in order to successfully complete this programme. Discipline and learning are important aspects of the programme. You must keep up-to-date with your work, or you will not be eligible to train or feature in the squads for that week.

  • Work Placement

    Whilst studying with us, you will have the opportunity to gain the skills and qualities that will set you aside from other students. You will be able to work with the football in the community team coaching young aspiring footballers, you will have the opportunity to run residential programmes for a Disability college from Birmingham which is one of our most successful and engaging groups that we see throughout the year, and finally you will have the opportunity to play and observe experience coaches at higher levels within the game.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

    As part of the programme you are required to purchase the training and match kit. This is the only mandatory cost for the course, however, from time to time there may be extra curricular trips or activities that students may be expected to contribute towards.

Fee information

14 - 18 year olds

In most cases students aged 14-18 years old on a substantial study programme will NOT be required to pay fees and most course-specific equipment and materials will be funded by the College. This excludes stationary, non-curriculum trips and a £15 enrichment fee.

19 years and over

Students aged 19 years and over may be required to pay fees. For details of fee remission and loans for students over the age of 19 click here. Please note that some courses may have additional registration, examination and/or materials fees. Where we have been unable to provide these additional costs in this information, they will be discussed with you prior to enrolment.
