In this blended course, you will have the opportunity to study coaching science. You will gain a scientific understanding of core principles involved in increasing an athlete's performance with a wide range of modules, as well as the ability to coach to a high level. Practical aspects will run alongside the scientific elements to ensure that you are able to increase your skills and knowledge. The qualification is studied full time over one year. The course is delivered through a blended learning approach, meaning teaching and learning will occur both in classrooms and remotely via a virtual learning environment.

  • Description

    After successfully completing the Higher National Certificate, you will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the concepts of coaching in the UK and the basic concepts of Sport & Exercise Science. You will gain a wide range of coaching knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. You will also develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for a competence) and transferable skills to ensure effective team working, independent initiatives, organisational competence and problem-solving strategies, which are highly valued in higher education and the workplace. You will be adaptable and flexible in your approach, show resilience under pressure and meet challenging targets within a given resource.

    This course operates using a blended learning approach, where part, orall ofsome units may be delivered online, viaa virtual learning environment. To participate in this programme, you will need a suitable computer and/or device with sufficient internet access. Specific requirements and information on the support available to borrow or purchase equipment can be discussed at interview.

  • Entry Requirements

    A Level 3 qualification,or similar, is required.

    A typical offer would be BCC at A-Level or DMM at BTEC. Applications are welcome from students with a range of non-traditional educational or professional qualifications. We also welcome mature students and students who have undertaken Access courses.

    As a minimum: 3 GCSE's Grade A-C / 9-4 or Level 2 equivalent to include Mathematics and English Language.

    If English is not your first language, a minimum IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) is required.

    You will require the ability to work independently in self-directed study as well as theresearch skill.You should be familiar with basic computer functions and applications including Microsoft Windows and Office. Parts of your programme will be delivered using a virtual learning environment. Training for this application will be provided.

  • Qualification

    Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Community Coaching for England

  • Progression

    Students who successfully complete this qualification can enter employment, continue existing employment, study a relevant course at Level 5 or commit to continuing professional development (CPD).

  • Assessment

    You will be assessed continually throughout the course, normally via written assignments, observations, presentations, practical activities andreflectivelogbooks.

  • Home Study

    You are expected to work independently and proactively to prepare for class and undertake written assignments in your own time, allocating approximately four hours a week on research and self-study outside of normal class time in order to build up knowledge and confidence and successfully complete the programme.

  • Work Placement

    The course does not involve work placement, but you are encouraged to seek out opportunities to visit or engage with companies within the industry.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

    The tuition fees for this programme are £ 6,000 per year. In addition to the tuition fee, an awarding body registration fee (set by the awarding body) and an annual student subscription fee of £15 are payable. At times, you may be offered the opportunity to visit exhibitions and shows, which may require additional entrance fees and travel costs.

    You will be expected to bring appropriate stationery and exercise kit for practical sessions.

Fee information

16 - 18 year olds

In most cases, students aged 16-18 on a full-time study programme (including T Levels) will not be required to pay fees, and the College will fund most course-specific equipment and materials. This excludes stationary, non-curriculum trips and a £15 College Subscription.

19 years and over

Students aged 19 years and over may be required to pay fees. Our Fees, Funding and Financial Support page has details on financial support, fee remissions and loans. Please note that some courses may have additional registration, examination and/or materials fees. Where we have been unable to provide these additional costs in this information, they will be discussed with you before enrolment.

Funded programmes

Where course fees are fully funded (for example Maths, English and Essential Digital Skills), the course is free of charge to students, subject to eligibility.

Skills Bootcamps
