  • Description

    The language skills for everyday situations will be consolidated and expanded.

    The following topics will be covered during the course:

    • Everyday activities
    • Shopping
    • Personal information
    • Transport
    • Accommodation and health

    Grammar will include the use of past and future tenses, as well as the present tense. Structures will be expanded, using adverbs and adjectives, to enable students to express themselves more accurately. The language skills to be developed are speaking, listening, reading and writing. These will be practised in a variety of classroom activities including work in pairs and groups, listening to CDs, use of interactive media, reading brochures and writing notes, emails or short letters.

    Learning Outcomes: Students will continue to learn how to communicate in everyday situations using the four language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

    You should be aware this is a 3 term course and they will be expected to complete all 3 terms of Intermediate before moving up to Advanced the following September.

    This course is delivered online through the Microsoft Teams platform. Access to this platform is included in your enrolment, however, you will need access to a suitable computer, with a webcam and microphone, in order to fully participate.

  • Entry Requirements

    You will be expected to have completed the beginners course or have equivalent experience and be able to communicate at a simple level using the present tense.

    Term two is a continuation of term one so basic knowledge is required. Term three is a continuation of term two so equivalent knowledge is required. Students are welcome to begin at the start of term two and three as long as they have equivalent experience.

  • Qualification

    This course does not lead to a formal qualification.

  • Progression

    Following successful completion of all three terms of Spanish Intermediate year one, You can progress onto the 'Spanish Advanced Conversation'

  • Assessment

    Progress on this course will be tested through answering handouts, informal quizzes/tests, observation, peer and lecturer feedback, presentation, audio recording and marked written work.

  • Home Study

    Homework (reading and assignments) is essential and you will benefit from undertaking home study of approximately one hour per week.

  • Work Placement

    You do not need to be in relevant work to undertake this course.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

    The tutor may advise to purchase book/CD, which will be discussed during the course. West Berkshire Council concessions are available for this course, subject to evidence on enrolment. Fee information

14 - 18 year olds

In most cases students aged 14-18 years old on a substantial study programme will NOT be required to pay fees and most course-specific equipment and materials will be funded by the College. This excludes stationary, non-curriculum trips and a £15 enrichment fee.

19 years and over

Students aged 19 years and over may be required to pay fees. For details of fee remission and loans for students over the age of 19 click here.
