This qualification is designed for anyone who is seeking to increase their knowledge of end of life care in a vocational setting. It's aimed at those working in the healthcare sector whose job description includes caring for those who have a life-limiting illness.

This qualification is also appropriate for those who have already achieved other sector-specific qualifications in the healthcare sector who need to apply their understanding in a palliative care context.

  • Description

    This qualification aims to:

    Provide students with a definition of end of life care explore common questions and themes in end of life care inform students of the range of possible approaches to end of life care provide students with an understanding of how to support a person's familial, spiritual, social and emotional needs prepare the student to confront issues of death and bereavement.

    Level 3 courses are free to any adult 19+ who has not already achieved a full Level 3 qualification. Please contact us for clarification.

  • Entry Requirements

    You will be issued with an Induction Workbook during your first discussion with your tutor; this workbook will determine whether you are suitable for the course. Learners must have the Level 2 Principles of End of Life Care or an equivalent qualification at a similar level before this course.

    Please Note: Level 3 Study Online Programmes are only available to those that have not previously obtained a Level 3 or equivalent.

    Current experience in the sector or a level 2 in End of Life Care. Basic computer skills to operate the Online Learning Platform are advisable.

    CACHE L3 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care

  • Assessment

    This qualification is internally assessed and externally quality assured.

  • Home Study

    Total qualification time is 160 hours. Study will be home-based and at the student's discretion within the timeframe stipulated by tutor.

  • Work Placement

    Students do not have to be in current work in this sector, but a level 2 qualification is recommended.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

    Our Level 2 and Level 3 Study Online programmes are available for FREE to UK/EU nationals aged 19 and over, who agree to take their qualification as part of a Digital and Distance Learning Programme. The programme includes the main qualification and short, additional workbook. Students who choose to take the qualification as a stand alone course or fail to complete their programme within the agreed timeframe will have to pay fees.

    There may be an additional charge for work based assessment visits and other costs. You will be advised of any additional charges before enrolment.

Fee information

14 - 18 year olds

In most cases students aged 14-18 years old on a substantial study programme will NOT be required to pay fees and most course-specific equipment and materials will be funded by the College. This excludes stationary, non-curriculum trips and a £15 enrichment fee.

19 years and over

Students aged 19 years and over may be required to pay fees. For details of fee remission and loans for students over the age of 19 click here. Please note that some courses may have additional registration, examination and/or materials fees.
