Engineering (Electrical and Electronic) Level 5 HND (Part-time)
Gain the highly valued BTEC HND Level 5 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and take the next step in your engineering career. You will study the qualification on a part-time basis, one day a week over two years. This course is delivered through a blended learning approach, meaning teaching and learning will occur both on site in the classroom and remotely via a virtual learning platform.

The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a nationally recognised qualification that is highly prised by employers.

You will explore key aspects of Electrical and Electronic Engineering that will equip you for progression within your chosen profession or for further study. You will be assessed via vocationally relevant assignments and, in addition to classroom teaching/blended learning, you will develop skills in research and self-directed study.
The course is delivered on a part time, day release basis over two years on Thursdays.
This course operates using a blended learning approach where part of some units may be delivered online via Microsoft Teams. To participate in this programme you will need a suitable computer and/or device with sufficient internet access. Specific requirements and information on the support available to borrow or purchase equipment can be discussed at interview.
You must have completed an HNC in an engineering discipline. Depending on existing qualifications, you may be required to complete additional top-up units to ensure they meet Pearson BTEC requirements.
You should be familiar with basic computer functions and applications including Microsoft Windows and Office. Parts of your programme will be delivered using Microsoft Teams. Training for this application will be provided.
Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering)
Upon completion of the course, students have the opportunity to progress to a BEng (Hons) in Engineering Design or a Degree Apprenticeship.
You will work on practical projects and submit written assignments that will be assessed throughout the duration of the programme, giving you the opportunity to receive valuable feedback and improve your working practice.
You are expected to allocate approximately six hours a week on research and self study outside of normal class time in order to build up knowledge, confidence and successfully complete the programme. This may be completed at home or in the Student Hub.
The course is aimed at those already in employment in the electronic/mechanical industry, but such employment is not an essential requirement to benefit from the course. The course does not involve work placement, but you are encouraged to seek out opportunities to visit or engage with companies within the industry.
Fees and Additional Costs
The tuition fee for this programme is £3,500 per year. In addition to the tuition fee, an awarding body registration fee (set by the awarding body) and an annual student association fee of £15 are payable. At times, you may be offered the opportunity to visit exhibitions and shows, which may require additional entrance fees and travel costs.
14 - 18 year olds
In most cases students aged 14-18 years old on a substantial study programme will NOT be required to pay fees and most course-specific equipment and materials will be funded by the College. This excludes stationary, non-curriculum trips and a £15 enrichment fee.
19 years and over
Students aged 19 years and over may be required to pay fees. For details of fee remission and loans for students over the age of 19 click here.
